Privacy Policy - PDF Toolkit

Privacy Policy for PDF Toolkit

Effective date: 6 October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Android app PDF Toolkit ("the App"). In short: your documents stay on your phone. The App is free and shows ads from Google; an optional Pro subscription removes the ads. Ads and the subscription are the only reasons the App connects to the internet.

1. Who We Are

The App is published by DHI Infotech. If you have any questions, contact us at dhi@tuta.io.

2. Information That Stays on Your Phone

We have no servers and no user accounts. We never receive your documents, images or anything you write or draw in them.

  • PDFs and images you open: merged, split, compressed, signed, converted, watermarked or password-protected entirely on your phone. They are never uploaded.

  • Files you create: kept in the App's private storage so you can find them in My files. They are deleted automatically after 7 days, or earlier when you delete them. Temporary working files are deleted when a task ends.

  • Scanned pages: photos are taken with your phone's own camera app. Finding the page edges, straightening and cleaning the page all happen on your phone.

  • Your signature: if you draw one, it is saved inside the App so you can reuse it. Drawing a new signature replaces it.

  • Recent files and recent tools: the name, location on your phone, size and page count of documents you opened, and which tools you used, so the home screen can show them.

  • Settings: your theme, language and compression preferences.

  • PDF passwords: used only to open or protect a document while you work on it. They are never saved.

Your documents leave your phone only when you choose to send them, for example by sharing, printing or saving a file to your Downloads or Pictures folder.

Android backup: if you have turned on Android's backup to your Google account, Android may include the App's data in that backup. That backup is controlled by you and Google, not by us.

Deleting your data: delete files in My files, clear the list on the home screen with Recent files → Clear, and remove temporary files with Settings → Clear working files. Uninstalling the App removes everything it stored.

3. Information Collected by Google

The App includes two Google services that process limited data. Neither of them receives your documents, images or signatures. We do not receive this data ourselves.

3.1 Advertising (Google AdMob)

The free version shows ads through the Google Mobile Ads SDK. When ads load, Google collects:

  • your device's IP address, which can be used to estimate your general location;

  • your device's advertising ID and app set ID;

  • interactions with ads and the App, such as app launches, taps and video views;

  • diagnostic information, such as app launch time and SDK performance.

Google uses this data to show and measure ads and to prevent fraud. The data is encrypted in transit. If you subscribe to Pro, the App shows no ads.

Your choice (EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland): when you first open the App, a Google consent form asks whether Google may use your data for personalised ads and whether information may be stored on or read from your device. If you decline, Google may still show non-personalised or limited ads, which process less data. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Ad privacy choices. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings under Privacy → Ads.

Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TDDDG). Where you have not consented, the limited processing needed to deliver ads and prevent fraud is based on our legitimate interest in offering the App for free (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

More information: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.

3.2 Pro Subscription (Google Play Billing)

The optional PDF Toolkit Pro subscription is sold and processed by Google Play. We never see your payment details. Google Play gives us the information needed to manage the subscription and our business, such as an order number, the product, the purchase date, the price and your country or region. The App itself only stores whether Pro is active and when that was last confirmed with Google Play. You can manage or cancel the subscription in Google Play under Payments & subscriptions.

Legal basis: providing the subscription you bought (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and our legal obligations for tax and accounting records (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).

3.3 Transfers Outside the EU

Google LLC is based in the United States. These transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

4. Permissions

The App requests the following permissions:

  • Photos and media: to pick images for the Images to PDF tool.

  • Storage (Android 9 and older only): to save files you create to your Downloads or Pictures folder.

  • Internet and network state: to load ads and to buy or confirm the Pro subscription.

  • Advertising ID and ad measurement: used by Google AdMob (see section 3.1).

  • Google Play Billing: to sell the Pro subscription (see section 3.2).

The App does not ask for access to your camera, contacts, location or microphone. Scanning opens your phone's own camera app, which returns the photo to the App.

5. How Long Data Is Kept

  • Files you create: 7 days, or until you delete them or uninstall the App.

  • Other data in the App: until you delete it in the App or uninstall the App.

  • Data collected by Google: according to Google's own retention periods, described in the Google Privacy Policy.

  • Subscription records we receive from Google Play: as long as tax and accounting law requires.

6. Your Rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data, to restrict its processing, to data portability, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to withdraw your consent at any time without affecting processing that took place before.

Because we do not receive your documents, you can exercise most of these rights directly in the App: delete files and recent files, and change your ad choices in Settings. For data collected by Google, see the Google links in section 3.1. For anything else, email us at dhi@tuta.io.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the country where you live or where we are based.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly process personal data of children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the effective date above.
